George Adrian Natarau from Zimnicea.
Time is running out.
Adrian
is a young man of twenty-four. Four
years ago he had a diving accident and was told he had broken his back.
He became a member of Network Gloria through his former teacher and
Network Gloria trustee Camelia Turcan.
Through Network Gloria he was provided with an
electric wheelchair and later an electric mattress to alleviate his dreadful
bedsores.
It
was only after he had paid for MRI scans that he discovered that his back had,
in fact, not been broken, but that the bad medical treatment he had
received had caused crippling pressure
on his spinal cord and made him bedridden.
In addition, his treatment connected with his bedsores has badly damaged his hips and legs.
He
now has a chance of at least partial recovery at a top hospital for spinal
injuries in Delhi, second to none, with
free recuperation time afterwards. The
operation could be undertaken at two days’ notice to allow for assessment.
Please
read his story and consider helping us to fundraise. £5000 has already been raised in Romania, by
his former school, church, home town and other contributors (see photos below). This would just about cover the return flight
for Adrian and his mother, who has to leave her husband, who is receiving
treatment for cancer. Adrian would have to travel on a lie-down seat, which
limits what type of plane he can travel on and which class.

Through
our friend Veena Malhotra, who once accompanied our team to an orphanage and
shared her skills with staff as a special needs and P.E. teacher, Adrian was
put in touch with her brother in India:
Sqn Ldr Prem Kumar Khullar (Retd)
who set up the ABLE charity.
Through his contacts he was able to share the MRI scans and medical
reports Adrian had had translated into
English with top spinal specialists at the private Apollo Hospital in Dehli. Though Adrian’s medical history is very
complex, they thought that, with surgery, Adrian should be able to sit up again
and take some steps.
The
operation would cost £7000, but he has also been offered free recuperation afterwards at the Able
Charity Hospital founded by Prem
Khullar. We are hoping that with
the correct treatment and physiotherapy,
both in India and when back in Romania, Adrian will be able to walk again one day
instead of facing a life of immobility.
We
feel this is his last chance, before the pressure on his spine does
irreversible damage. Network Gloria is
a small charity and we cannot help
Adrian without outside support. Any money raised above the £7000 needed for
the surgery would be used for Adrian and any physiotherapy equipment needed on his road to recovery.
Adrian
speaks and writes English very well and is able to communicate
by email and SKYPE. He is happy to keep
in touch with supporters as he travels along his road to recovery. Please give Adrian and his family hope of
picking up his life again, when all hope had been lost, by contacting Network
Gloria Thank you.
Gloria will be raising money to help Adrian by taking part in a sponsored swim, more details will follow soon. Please see attached Sponsorship Form for preliminary details.
