The
electric mattresses have arrived safely and are waiting to be distributed to
our members in a number of towns. Further details and photographs will
appear shortly.
We were fortunate to receive a large donation this year. In the past we purchased a medical bed for one of our Network sufferers. The pump was not working and we telephoned Westmeria Healthcare for a replacement pump. Their generosity was outstanding. Not only did they reduce the cost of the pump by £100, but they also offered us some ‘equipment’. Janet and I went along to the factory, where Jaylee showed us shelves of reconditioned medical beds. She asked if we could send them to needy people as they were no longer required. In all there were 43 medical beds, with attached pumps, serviced, cleaned and ready to be used.We were rather overwhelmed but not prepared to say we could not cope with so large a large quantity, since we knew that there were people with severe bedsores , needing such beds. We said, ‘Yes please, we would love to have them.’
As we left the factory Janet and I discussed the problems of transport costs. The committee decided to donate some beds to Serbia and send the rest to Romania.LCL at Dover, gave us very competitive terms for shipping the beds to Romania and Brother Mihai, Camelia and Dana helped to organise the reception party and transport in Romania. The beds have already arrived and we are eagerly waiting for photos of our bedridden patients, whom have benefited from Westmeria’s generous donation.
Many thanks to Westmeria and all those who worked as a team to organise this.
We can move mountains [of beds] when we try!!!
